Alarm Clock is not playing downloaded songs from Apple Music

I am not sure if this is a software issue, but my alarm clock is not playing the songs that I have selected. The songs are downloaded in Apple Music. I have deleted said songs and reinstalled them and still nothing. The software is up to date with the latest version (at the time of this post iOS 14.6). The funny thing about it is that it plays the songs that I downloaded weeks ago. The 2 songs that I have attempted to use as my alarm ringtone were just downloaded within the last 2 weeks. Hence, why I think it may be a software issue that hopefully will be fixed with the next update. Has anyone else had this problem or have a solution on how to resolve this? Thank you.

If you haven’t fixed it yet I finally figured it out delete the song from the iPhone then go into settings and choose your download audio quality as high-quality not lossless then download it set it as your alarm and it will work perfectly

For me switching off Dolby Atmos downloads in Settings/Music solved it.

Still don’t understand why songs that can be played by Music, and are playing as a preview when setting alarms, do not play at alarm time. Seems an omission, or maybe a license thing. But then the Clock app should warn the user that the Dolby Atmos song will not play.

I have an old iPad Pro running iOS 15.3.1. I was having the same problem. I would set an alarm, choose a song, the name of the song would appear as the sound in the alarm setup panel. Looked dandy. However, when the alarm went off at 6 am the following morning, one of the Apple sounds played instead of the song I had selected. The song was still listed as the alarm sound in the iPad Clocks app.

I opened Music on my iPad, scrolled to the song in question. There are three horizontal dots on the far right. I clicked that to see a drop down menu. I then scrolled to Download and clicked. An open gray circle appeared just to the left of the song length time. In a few seconds it was filled with a down arrow. Then I closed Music. I set a test alarm, selecting the song I had just “downloaded?’ and it worked! The alarm went off and played my chosen wake-up song!!

Go into the Music App, find the song you’re wanting your alarm to play, and ensure it’s downloaded to your phone. If the song isn’t downloaded to the phone, a default alert will play.

MAKE SURE the song you download is the SAME version you’re trying to play on your alarm (single or EP or album or remix or whatever).

I had the same problem and this resolved it for me.

So what you have to do is download the song you want to use. Essentially what you do is go into the music app and touch the song. Then at the top of the screen there should be two circular buttons side by side. The one on the left is the one you need to press. It should look like a down arrow. Press it and it should look like an app that’s downloading. When it’s ready to use it should look like a checkmark.

I’m having the same issue. Songs are downloaded in music. Chosen songs from weeks or months ago always work. When adding new song they work only intermittently. I too am thinking a software issue but unsure how to proceed. The weirdest thing is when have multiple alarms with multiple chosen songs my list of songs in the alarm settings changes. For example, the list shown for my 6am alarm differs from the list shown at noon etc. Plus one day 6am plays my chosen song but at noon the chosen song goes missing and the default radar alert goes off. I continue to tinker but it seems either a software issue is the cause or I’m missing a step in setup. Please respond if anyone can problem solve.
