Media volume not working

My media volume and messenger notifications are so low I can’t hear them. Siri says the media volume is all the way up. My ringer and other sounds are fine. How can I resolve this?

Hi there Hiskid603,

Thanks for joining us in Apple Support Communities. We understand the volume is lower than expected on your iPhone for media and for notifications from the third-party app, Messenger. We're glad you're here, and we'd like to learn more to see how we can help.

To start, which iPhone do you have and which iOS version is listed in Settings > General > About? What type of content are you listening to and within which app when you notice the volume is low? Are you listening from your iPhone speaker or using headphones or another audio device when this happens?

Next, did you get a chance to try all the suggested steps in the related article linked in blue in the top left corner of this page? If so, what were the results exactly?

"When you’re on the phone or listening to songs, movies, or other media, the buttons on the side of iPhone adjust the audio volume. Otherwise, the buttons control the volume for the ringer, alerts, and other sound effects."

Keeping that in mind, let's be sure you've checked your volume settings with the steps here:

Adjust the volume on iPhone

Send over these details, and we'll take a closer look from there.

Cheers.

Thank you so much for your reply and helpful tips. I thought I’d tried them all however I had not tried the side button while the media was playing and that worked! What I don’t understand is why Siri couldn’t turn the media volume up, it would just reply “this is as loud as it gets”

I’ve struggled with this for weeks, thanks for your easy fix!
