iPad with lost ID

I have an iPad where I have no access to Apple ID since I used an email that I have no access to it anymore. I tried to change this Apple ID but I couldn’t since apple is sending me a reset request to the same email address. Is there a way to change the Apple ID? This is needed in order to update the applications and the IOS version. Thanks for the help

For the Activation Lock support request - hthttps://al-support.apple.com/#/additional-support Apple says, "Proof of ownership documentation is required," but does not state what currently constitutes proof. Prior to this new online service Apple typically required the original receipt issued by an Apple Authorized dealer and documented provenance (so typically it would be the original owner who does this, or a descendant with legal proof of ownership).

If necessary, if you are the original owner, contact Apple. Apple can remove the ID  if provided the required paperwork to include the original purchase receipt with the serial number on it.

Request additional support for unlocking your device

Either take the device, the original purchase receipt with the serial number, and a photo ID to the nearest Apple Store (if it has reopened). Call the store before going to make sure they can help.

I too was wondering but I could see that now that unlocking is official and they provide an online service for it they may wish to standardize the criteria and keep it in the neutrality of an online application. Before it was a wild-west of an unofficial process with no set criteria and pretty much at the whim of an Apple Store manager. Unfortunately they permanently closed the Apple Store near me last summer so I can't just go in and ask somebody the way I did 2 years ago.
