Internal mic not working in Garageband and Voice Memos, IPad Pro 2021

Garageband and Voice Memos can’t record sound on my iPad. It seems that these apps have not accessed the internal mic. I cannot find the apps on the list in privacy setting for microphone too.

Just bought this IPad two days ago and everything else works fine. The microphone also works fine for Camera and other apps such as Line call or Messenger.

please advice what to do, thank you very much.

Your testing with other Apps usefully demonstrates that the internal Microphone hardware is working. As such, you have a software issue.

I notice that the GarageBand App has been updated in the last 24hrs. If you have not already done so, updating the App to the current version should be your first step.

Whilst I have little personal knowledge of the GarageBand App, I note that it is possible to reset all of this Apps settings. Doing so may be useful:

Settings > GarageBand > Reset GarageBand - set to ON

A forced-restart of your iPad may also be helpful in resolving an isolated software problem:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.
