I need to replace the screen on my MacBook Pro 15" 2014 Model: A1398.
Is the screen interchangeable? For example can an A1278 screen, or other be used instead and if so which can?

Hi,
I think you can't use other models' LCD for your MacBook Pro and it's quite hard to replace LCD by yourself.
You'd better contact Apple Support or make Genius Bar reservation if your local retail Apple Store is open or find local opened Apple Authorized Service Provider to repair your screen.

Your Mid 2014 MacBook Pro has a 15" Retina screen; the A1278 has a 13-inch non-Retina screen. No go.
As Apple now considers your computer "vintage," they will neither service it nor provide parts it except in certain states and countries where consumer law mandates longer support periods. See:
Obtaining service for your Apple product after an expired warranty - Apple Support
You will be working with an independent service provider who will be shopping for used/pulled parts.
The display on all Retina MacBook pros is a single sealed unit, so you will have to replace the entire thing. Parts and labour costs posted here can run in the US$500-650 range.
If you are in the US, I would start looking with PowerBook Medic. Their sites shows they have excellent parts coverage for vintage/obsolete Mac models.
