Would love some help please my Mac was clicking over and over and had a folder on start up with a question mark I restarted a few times then goggled to try option>Command >R as it starts I get into disk utility and Max OsX Base system is all that is appearing in disk utility no HD - Ive got many family photos and files I don't want to loose so im scared to press the wrong thing - would love some help please

Completey agree with @Neil's diagnosis. You heard the hard drive's death clicks.
You should always have frequent and regular backups.
