iCloud Photos

Hello everyone. I just bought 50 GB storage for iCloud and turned photo sync on with the following option - “Download and keep originals”. I wonder the following things: 1 - Will all of my photos and videos be uploaded to icloud without losing quality/resolution?

2 - The photos I had on my phone - Will their quality be changed after I turn icloud with “Download and keep originals” option turned on - even if I don’t have access to the internet? (I don’t want to lose quality for the photos I had on my phone because of iCloud upload)

This is all. basically. I am new to the icloud and uploading things to the cloud in general - and I really don’t want to lose any photo quality on my phone.

I would appreciate your answers!!

Hello NeonWeeb,

We understand that you're new to iCloud Photos, and have some questions about how this works.

When you turn this feature on, your photos and videos are automatically uploaded to iCloud. With the option to "Download and Keep Originals", this will upload full-resolution versions of your photos and videos while keeping the same full-resolution versions on your iPhone. If your iPhone has a large amount of available space, then this is a good option.

If you have limited space on your device, then the "Optimize iPhone Storage" is a better option. This will keep lower resolution versions on your iPhone, which reduces the file size. You can download a full-resolution version of the photos and videos to your iPhone if wanted.
