How do I get the flagged email dot(s) to show in my lists of emails?

I recently switched to Big Sur and noticed that my emails no longer display the colored flag denoting a flagged email. Yes they appear in a separate mailbox marked 'flagged', but the flag doesn't appear next to the email while in a listing within a mailbox. I like seeing my flagged messages in context with their surrounding emails, not set aside in a separate 'flagged' email box where they're typically out of context. Any way to get this function back? Did I neglect to turn something on? Thanks.
