ipad 8 is having trouble charging. it is charging inconsistently

Check the Lightning socket for debris and carefully clear any found, check that both the charger and cable work and are reliable (maybe try them with another Lightning device), restart the iPhone, and then failing all that use the Get Support link in the upper right of this webpage and discuss your options with Apple support.
