Phone Contacts

I want to create contact groups...new iphone contacts are not in iCloud yet. Do I have to wait until tomorrow or can I get them to upload to cloud now?

Is there an easier way to make contact groups for group texts? This seems like a lot of steps?

iPhone SE, iOS 14
