editing Mac Mail toolbar

How do I remove or edit the Mac Mail default set toolbar?

Unable to change any items in the default set or even to remove the default set and add the items I wish to use.

To edit or customize the toolbar for the Mail app:

• Open the Mail app.

• Right-click on any empty area of the Mail tool bar (the area next to the "stoplights" is a good spot).

• Click "Customize Toolbar..."

• Add, Delete and arrange the toolbar as you like.
