Final Cut Pro - Importing audio - on waveform
When I move music or sound effects to a timeline, it only shows a bar, not a wave form. Is there a setting I'm missing?

You can change the appearance of clips in the timeline.
Maybe this is what you want: click the marked button - it is at the top right of the timeline - and choose a different option:
