Gift card towards new Iphone

can I use my Apple gift card towards buying an iPhone. Online it says that I can use it to purchase “products” online or in the apple store but I was recently told I cannot.

This depends on which type of gift card you are purchasing, or have purchased.

The type of gift card confusingly known as an Apple Gift Card gift card, and the Apple Store Gift Card gift card can both be used to buy an iPhone. Others… not so much.

The gift card must be purchased in the same country that it is used in.
