No audio, AirPlay from iPad to Samsung TV

AirPlay from my iPad to Samsung TV works but without the audio. Audio still plays via iPad instead of TV. Please help!

Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you’re trying to AirPlay from your iPad to your Samsung TV, but the audio isn’t transferring to the TV. If we’re on the same page, let’s start by confirming everything is set up correctly.


Use AirPlay to stream video or mirror the screen of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support


  • Make sure your iPad is on the same Wi-Fi network as your TV. If you have a router that supports multiple bands or networks, it’s easy to get set up on different bands. 


  • Make sure that your Samsung TV is one of these AirPlay 2 compatible models:


Samsung FHD/HD 4, 5 Series (2018)

Samsung QLED 4K Q6, Q7, Q8, Q9 Series (2018, 2019, 2020)

Samsung QLED 8K Q9 Series (2019, 2020)

Samsung The Frame Series (2018, 2019, 2020)

Samsung Serif Series (2019, 2020)

Samsung UHD 6, 7, 8 Series (2018, 2019, 2020)

It's our pleasure!


We're also assuming that you restarted both your TV and iPad and checked the volume settings and the Ring/Silent switch on your iPad as outlined in the article you originally referenced. If not, let's make sure neither of those are causing the issue: If screen mirroring or streaming isn't working on your AirPlay-compatible device - Apple Support


It's possible that you have different audio formats and codecs available to your MacBook than you do on your iPad, which would explain why it works from one but not the other. From the Samsung article it briefly outlines a few adjustments in "Change AirPlay 2 settings on your TV", but you might also try disabling Dolby Digital+ at Settings > Sound > Expert Settings > Digital Output Audio Format on your TV. If the video you're playing isn't available with Dolby Digital+ audio formats from your iPad, you may hear silence when you attempt to play the video.
