I don’t remember if I had to add it manually to my Apple ID or if was added automatically. Does it show up under your Apple ID at appleid.apple.com in Safari?

Do you see it in the Home app on your phone?

If not, click the big + next to the Home icon (top left), and select Add Accessory.

Once it appears in the Home app, then wait a minute or two, as it will very likely offer you an option to upgrade the HomePod Mini’s software within the Home app.

Once that’s done, I’d tap the top of the HomePod Mini to turn it on and then it should appear in the Control Panel, ready to be assigned as an AirPlay audio device for Apple Music, etc.
