Purple and green lines on MacBook screen

What does it mean when my MacBook periodically flashes vertical purple and green lines? It's been happening for the past two days. The screen is not always bent at the same angle when this happens.

This could be one of three potential reasons:

  1. The notebook's display is faulty.
  2. The notebook's logic board is faulty.
  3. The display cable between the two has become worn ... regardless of the angle of the display.


One thing you can try to see if it help is to reset the notebook's SMC. To do so, see the following support article:
