iMac 21.5 inch, Mid 2011 running High Sierra. Wakes at night, several times nightly. I tried turning it Off at night, but started having fan issues immediately. Can't move it to another room (is in our bedroom) because of availability of ISP connections, etc. Anyone else have this problem? Or a solution?

Download and run Etrecheck. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC and recommended by Apple Support to provide a snapshot of the system and help identify the more obvious culprits that can adversely affect a Mac's performance.
IMPORTANT:
Before running Etrecheck assign Full Disk Access to Etrecheck in the Etrecheck's Privacy preference pane so that it can get additional information from the Console and log files for the report:
Also click and read the About info to further permit full disk access.
Copy the report
and use the Additional Text button to include the report in your reply.
Then we can examine the report and see if we can determine what might be causing the problem.
I may have had the same issue with my 2018 mac mini which woke up two or three times every night. The display stayed off, but my gaming mouse and Sonnet eGPU would light up their LEDs in a Christmas Tree imitation for a minute or two before going dark again.
Solutions: (1.) disable Power Nap from energy settings, (2.) disable automatic Time Machine backup (I now use a 3rd party utility called TimeMachineEditor for scheduled backups). Together those two changes eliminated 90%+ of night time wake ups. Not ideal, but less inconvenient than choosing between turning it off every night or covering all the LED status lights.
Thank you for replying. I believe a simpler solution has worked, (uncheck"wake for network access"), but I made a note of these suggestions in case it starts up again. Sincerely appreciate all the help.

That's right in line with Occam's Razor: the simplest solution is usually the best solution. 👍
I believe this one suggestion worked, and I appreciate it. I unchecked the "wake for network access" and wahoo! slept through the night.
Open System Preferences> Energy Saver and make sure Wake for Ethernet access is unchecked.
