iMac dings for No reason

Ever since Big Sur, my iMac dings for NO reason. I've been into System Preferences -> Notifications and turned every app OFF. There is NO app that should be allowed to cause my iMac to "DING", yet at random times and frequency, it DINGS. It's VERY ANNOYING. The last thing I've tried is to set my DO NOT DISTURB setting for all 24 hours. Even if this works, I can't leave it like that. There are some notifications I'd like to receive. I've seen similar complaints, but can't seem to locate them now. I'm obviously wording the question incorrectly.

How do I stop the non-relevant dinging? HELP!

I now know why my iMac keeps dinging for NO reason.

In System preferences, I turned off ALL notifications. And the dinging quit. (Hint - I noticed by accident while looking at my emails that it dinged exactly at the instant a new email arrived).

Now the only things I've turned back on are:

Calendar. Play Sound when UNchecked

Facetime Checked

Home UNchecked

Kerberos Checked

Malwarebytes Agent Checked

Reminders Checked

Smartcard pairing UNchecked

Wallet Checked

Zoom UNchecked

iMac is back to dinging when mail arrives, even though I have Mail turned OFF.

This is definitely a BUG. I hate it.

But that's what it is.

Definitely!

  1. Did you restart in Safe Mode and then restart normally and retest???????????????????????????

Try the basics of :

How to reset NVRAM on your Mac

Use Safe Mode to isolate issues with your Mac

If no joy and the computer is less than 14 days old and you bought it directly from Apple, return it and get another.

Also, do you have any third party antivirus, cleaning or any other maintenance utilities installed???

Thanks for the suggestions. I do have MalwareBytes installed, but I've checked it and there's no current issues there. And, I really have no NEW apps installed. I have some from several OS's back, but only those that have been upgraded to 64-bit status. This almost has to be an OS glitch embedded very deeply. With Monterey coming out Monday, I'll (against my better judgement to wait for the first .x release) go ahead and install it and see if it continues.
