How do I save a file as an mp4 rather than .mov?

I am trying to save a movie as an mp4, and I can only see how to save it as a .mov

I need some guidance as the online solutions I find don't seem to help

Thanks

M4v and Mp4 are virtually the same. M4v is uniquely an apple codec and works on all Apple devices and software, but may not work on non-apple devices and software. This is because m4v carries Apple's Fair Play DRM protection. However, if the DRM protection is removed, there is no essential difference between the formats. While mp4 is universally compatible, m4v is mostly limited to Apple devices and software.

Here's an article that discusses the difference between m4v and mp4.
