Why can't Apple TV 4K be configured to pass either DD 5.1 or Dolby Atmos, whichever is best? Can only configure DD 5.1 or LPCM/Dolby Atmos. Thanks.

When Audio Format set to “Auto” (PCM Multichannel and optionally Dolby Atmos in Dolby MAT), then Dolby Digital 5.1/AAC 5.1 source material will be output as PCM 5.1, which is uncompressed, but otherwise the same quality as the source. It is the discrete channels that is important, not the Dolby brand name, nor a symbol lighting up on your equipment.
