Network Selection

I have selected ethernet first, ethernet cable connected, airport on but wifi turned off;

Network preferences says ethernet has a self-assigned IP address and therefor cannot connect to the internet. ??? Any suggestions?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15
