If your iPad is unresponsive, a forced-restart should resolve the immediate problem:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

As to your space-bar issue, I presume you are having difficulties with an external keyboard. If you have enabled Full Keyboard Access, your spacebar may currently have a special function enabled; if so, either disable Full Keyboard Access, or just remove the in function to which “Space” is assigned:

Settings > Accessibility > Keyboards > Full Keyboard Access > Full Keyboard Access - set to OFF

Settings > Accessibility > Keyboards > Full Keyboard Access > Commands - modify as needed
