Since upgrade to Mac OS X Monterey 12.1 - Screen Capture Modal Will Not Close

Try booting to Safe Mode. That boot up takes minutes and clears caches and other things that may resolve your problem.

A lot of times just boot to Safe Mode followed by normal boot resolves problems.

If it is Freezing there is something not right on this machine.

Suggest downloading the Application Etrecheck directly from a well Respected ASC Contributor. 

The application is free or paid from added features. 

Run the application with Full Disc Access ( Security & Privacy - Full Disc Access ).

It will take a Snap Shot -  both the hardware and software.

 The Report will Not Reveal Any Personal Information. 

Post back the Full Report - copy and paste - using the Additional Text Icon ( 3rd Icon to last )

We can have a look at the report for possible issues and may have possible suggestions to resolve the issues.

Any Third Party Applications that will interfere with the normal operation of the OS, alter, modify, remove or delete or attempt to do so is an invitation for disaster and may require a Reinstallation of the OS.

This includes AntiVirus, Disk Cleaners, Disk Optimizes, UnInstaller etc.

And CMM or any type like it, will qualify for above should be Removed

The The Built in Security  is all that is required.

Have the same issue only since latest install. Mac OS12.1

Since the upgrade to 12.1

• Screen Capture works - creates temporary Icon bottom right of screen
• Selecting the capture Icon, it permits selection 'Share' and 'Share to Photos.'
• Successfully Transfers Screen Shot to Photos
• Modal Dialog DOES NOT CLOSE. Safe Mode did not resolve issue. Only solution I have had success with is to create a second screenshot and then trash it.

Use the ESC key

Tried that, doesn’t work. The screenshot freezes.

im sure it will get figured out. It’s not the end of the world. I will probably restore from backup to day before update and then update again. Will see if I can reproduce the issue then.

I am having the same exact issue and turning on/off the computer during work just to close it, is NOT an option :-(

Same problem here. Clicking the x in the upper left corner of the window, then hitting esc on the keyboard works for me.
