Can I back up iphone without icloud if I can't open my phone.?

The screen on my old iPhone broken and I can't unlock it. I don't have recent backups on iCloud. I have now bought a new iPhone. Can I clone my old iPhone onto the new without unlocking the old one? If so, how?

If that is not possible and I have to install my new iPhone using an old iCloud backup temporarily, can I later reinstall/update it by cloning my old iPhone (assuming I fix the broken screen)? (The reason I would want to do that is to get my most recent photos etc from the old phone.)

iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 15

iCloud Photos synchronise, and are not part of backups. Do you mind checking iCloud.com first, and having a look in the Photos section, to see if your recent photos are there.
