How do you save folder structure on desktop for Mac Pro

I'm always having to reorganize the folder structure on my desktop. I have a few main folders on my desktop which contain subfolders and documents. When I open one of the main folders there is always disarray. I would like to be able to save the structure of how the subfolders and documents are displayed so I don't have to arrange them every time I open the main folders. How to do?

MacBook Pro (2020 and later)

You can have it automatically arrange by some criteria in the View Options for each folder.

If you have some manual arrangement, Snap to Grid (sort by) should keep everything where you set it.
