I've been getting pop ups in Macbook's Chrome, is it safe to install a cleaning software to get rid of these?

I've been getting pop ups in Macbook's Chrome and I've tried everything from reseting blocking pop ups in settings, removing suspicious extensions, deleting unknown programs and resetting settings.. but none worked... There is another solution I found which is to install a cleaning software to detect viruses or malware... but is it safe to install a cleaning software to get rid of the pop ups? If yes which cleaning software is safe to download?

Or does anyone have a better solution?

thank you

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities.

Do not install a "cleaning" app. The only tool that should be used to remove it is the free Malwarebytes for Mac
