mail on iPad disabling side bar to view message

Got a new iPad last year and can't figure out how to view the message in mail full screen. the sidebar for mail is always there. on MacBook Pro I can get rid of it by collapsing it with my mouse.

You don’t. On a Mac, you can double click the email to view it in it’s own window etc. iPadOS is not the same.
