How do I find out which USB port is on a new MacBookAir? And how do I connect my older USB cords to it?

USB Ports! How to adapt!!

How do I find out the designation of the USB port on my new MacBookAir? And how do I connect my older USBs to it? I bought an adapter labeled Thunderbolt3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2, and it doesn't work.

Which exact model is your MacBook Air. You can find details on what type of ports it has with the Apple Technical Specifications with each of there models here: Apple Specs

For example, the (currently) newest MBA model, is the 2020 M1. It comes with two Thunderbolt / USB-C 4.0 ports.
