battery wont charge on new computer

Hello.

I bought an Apple refurbished MacBook Pro 13 inch a year ago but didnt use it. It has been in a stable climate. Ive started it up only to find that the battery wont fully charge - I can only use the computer when it is plugged in. Ive updated all of the software. Any advice or do I have to buy a new battery?

thank you

Intel ?

Try resetting the SMC https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

M1 ?

No SMC or NVRAM on the M1 SoC equivalent Shut down, close the lid 30 secs+ , reboot as normal.

If no resolve try SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262 to sort anomalies.

In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test /assessment

I followed the appropriate instructions at the apple support link. Unfortunately I can’t now get the computer to turn on at all now. 😳
