Hi ericson51,

Welcome to the Apple Community.

Your query is posted in the MacOS High Sierra Community..

so am unsure if it is an iPhone, another device, or a Mac you are unable to update.

Eg: In order to be of help:

Wondering which Mac model you have, (Apple icon > "About this Mac")

and

which Mac OS versions are compatible with your Mac .. (depends on Mac model.)

and

Which Mac OS you are trying to update to from MacOS High Sierra..

or similar info about your iOS and iPhone / device.

You might want to try this article from Apple Support:

If you can’t download or update apps on your iPhone or iPad

All the best :-)

Troubleshooting iPhone Update:

Determining if an Update will Install:

How to do so...

A. Verify Compatibility:

Identify your iPhone model. The first thing that comes to mind in incompatibility being the culprit. So, confirm the model of your iPhone. If iPhone model is incompatible with iOS13 and/or iOS14 and/or iOS15 then it is because you iPhone does not meet the hardware requirements for this iOS version(s).

B. If Compatible...

1. Back Up First:

IMPORTANT: If you have an option to update, however, then be certain you backup your iPhone first. That way, you will have something to restore your iPhone from should anything go wrong with the update

then...

2. Proceed with the Update:
