Touch Id not working after Monterey 12.2.1. update

Hi, my MBP (late 2017, 4 Tunderbolt, 3 ports) got the latest 12.2.1. OS update. Since then, the touch ID seem to become inoperable after the MBP is locked for 10-20 mins. It is working (unlocks) right after locking, but after longer idle it says in system preferences that "Touch ID preferences cannot be loaded" and is not working.

Anyone else with the same issue?

From your post we understand that Touch ID stops working after your MacBook Pro has been idle for a few minutes. Let's see how we can help. Start by going over the steps outline here, including restarting your Mac, and test by adding a different fingerprint: If Touch ID isn't working on your Mac. If the issue persists, reset the System Management Controller (SMC): How to reset the SMC of your Mac.

If the behavior continues, test in a newly created administrator account. This will help with determining if the issue is specific to one user account: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac.
