Perhaps more information about your portable Mac hardware build, and its system version may help?

Was that an older 'intel-based' design ~ or a newer Apple silicon M1 system-on-chip?


Try Safe mode? Rules vary depending on which build year and hardware.

If your built-in camera isn’t working on your Mac - Apple Support


For 'Intel-based' Mac hardware, try an SMC reset -[&/or]- NVRAM (Both unavailable to Apple M1.)

For M1 silicon, see & study macOS Recovery 'item list' instructions.
