Testing of Apple Mac Pro Power Supply DPS-980AB PSU

Is it possible to test a removed and isolated DPS-980AB PSU on a bench with a multimeter (powered up with an IEC power cable) and should any of the terminals show live, like at the J4/C block, or does it need to be plugged into the harness for a return signal to trip it?

- i.e. Does it need a short on a couple of the block terminals to activate power just to be able to instigate and therefore test power output at the terminal blocks?

When powered up with a mains power cord (IEC), all terminals in blocks J1, J2, J3 and J4/C appear dead.

Mac wasn't powering up, hence removal to test.

With the IEC wall power cord plugged in, your Mac Pro power supply MUST provide its "always-on" standby power, on some output terminals, about 3 volts. If it does not, it is not capable of running your Mac.

Yes, there are some leads that could be shorted to ask the supply to power up, But I do not know which they are. Maybe someone does, but I doubt it.

Maybe the Internet knows.

On older Macs, with many-colored wires, the unique wires were clearly indicated, and some experimentation sometimes produced a power-on. With all black wires, there are just too many combination for random trial.
