Hi,
Did you try resetting the printing system and re-adding the printer (to use AirPrint)?
Reset the printing system on your Mac to solve a problem – Apple Support (UK)
Add a printer to your printer list so you can use it on Mac – Apple Support (UK)
The SCX-3405W and the MacBook Air must be connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router) in order to work with AirPrint.
Also, check whether the latest printer firmware is installed. It may be possible to use the built-in SyncThru Web Service (see pp 140 and 271 in the manual at http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05786719#G14.4944743) and its Maintenance tab (page 272) through a standard web browser once the printer is connected to a router. A Network Configuration Report (page 141 in the manual) may be of interest.
If there are difficulties with AirPrint, and if all settings are OK, one could try the following procedure:
Power off the Wi-Fi router, the printer, the MacBook Air, and all other devices/computers. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the router. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the printer. Wait a minute or two. Power on the MacBook Air. Finally, power on all other devices/computers.
You could also test AirPrint via an iPhone or iPad:
Use AirPrint to print from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
