I suspect the improvement from the 32bit to 64bit processors is the snag… Perhaps I should NOT support Monterey on my MAC 2017 machine, and revert to Catalina or Sierra & my TIME MACHINE BU…
and Disconnect it altogether from the internet until I POSSIBLY purchase a new MAC…
iTunes. is no longer supported.
Perhaps I could install Catalina w/ my iTunes library on a 4TB external drive & switch between it and Monterey ?

Catalina also uses Music, TV, Podcasts, Books, and Finder instead of iTunes. Explore the new apps. They cover the functions of iTunes, although manual management is less capable than before.
