Do I have to use a flash drive if I don’t want to. My Mac is a late 2012

I want to make my iMac into windows but I am wondering if I have to use a flash drive or not ( my iMac is a late 2012 )

Install Windows 10 on your Mac with Boot Camp Assistant tells us that you need:

An external USB flash drive with a storage capacity of 16GB or more, unless you're using a Mac that doesn't need a flash drive to install Windows.


Further down that page you will see:

If you have one of these Intel-based Mac models using OS X El Capitan or later, you don't need a USB flash drive to install Windows ...iMac introduced in 2015 or later


So your 2012 iMac would need the flash drive.
