Notes App

Why have notes on my Notes App disappeared? I am using an iPhone 8 version 15.4.1

Are they automatically deleted after a period of time or when phone updates?

Same question for an iPad Air version IOS 12.4.6

Can they be recovered? Thanks

Notes are deleted if you delete them.
