We need to see what all is running, a report from this will not display any personal info...

EtreCheck is a FREE simple little diagnostic tool to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac. It will not display any personal info.

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report if you capture the URL while there…

Whew, they've changed pastebin & made it harder, but after pasting in, click Create new paste button, then Embed button, then copy the URL...

The important part of the above is...

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck. In a Reply before you click post, look for this to add longer texts...

More details.

This seems to be happening only when replying to a received email.

And, when I click reply, it displays the "To:" email address and it's highlighted.

I've now noticed if I click on the highlighted email address, the send button is active.

So I guess it's really not a problem, but I just think it's strange that I have to validate the email address of the recipient that sent me the original email.

My Apple Mail client is behaving in precisely this fashion: there are no connection errors at all (on 3 different mail accounts); and clicking on the send in the reply email will resolve the problem, or going to the menu bar and clicking send there (sub "Message") will also work. But it's a nuisance. I happen to think it's a problem (unlike SkyKing333); a bug. @Apple: can you fix??
