I want to use my iPhone through my iMac. i had been able to do that previously

To do what exactly? What are you trying to accomplish?
You can connect the iPhone to the Mac to extract photos and videos from it.
You can use Quicktime on the Mac to view the iPhone's screen.
You can use Continuity to complete tasks on the Mac that where started on the iPhone.
Different things will have different steps. You need to explain what it is you want to accomplish for specific help.
I want to be able to answer incoming calls using the iMac, communicate with the incoming call. All assumes to iPhone is nearby.
