Screen Mirroring Monterey Not Working (from Menu Bar)

I have a new Macbook Pro running Monterey. When plugging in an external monitor via hdmi, the "screen mirroring" option in the top menu bar doesn't list my monitor as a mirroring option. I AM able to mirror it when going through the system preferences > displays > display settings, but of course, I want to be able to mirror / extend my monitor quickly without having to do all this.

Any help out there?

I have...

iMac (Retina 5k, 27-inch Late 2015) with Monterey 12.4

Sony 20 inch TV with Apple HDMI Adapter.

Not working for me with mirror or extended. The iMac is aware an external HDMI TV is connected and I can move the cursor off to the left, but it doesn't appear on the Sony TV - because the TV has no video and is completely black.

The thing is: SystemPrefs->Display remembers a Sony 31.5 inch I had years ago (except it was 40 inch), but holding the Option key and clicking Detect Displays doesn't change anything.

So, my quest is: How can I delete the old TV and detect the new one?
