Messages conversations syncing iOS/MacOS?

Messages syncing between iOS and MacOS seem to be working okay, BUT conversation deleting doesn't sync. This means, for example, when you go into MacOS Messages after only using iOS Messages for a while, you have dozens of old deleted (in iOS) conversations you have to delete again. Worse, you can only delete one conversation at a time. This annoys me to no end.

are you sure that you're actually 'syncing' them?

ie, if you have messages forwarded to your Mac, that doesn't necessarily mean that they are synced.

You would need to be using iCloud on both devices

On the iPhone, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud and make sure the switch is turned on for Messages

On the Mac, go to the Messages app, Messages menu > Preferences > @ Messages and make sure the box is checked for Enabled Messages in iCloud
