If your Apple ID account is locked you can't sign into it in order to add or change a trusted device.

See Check your Apple ID device list to see where you're signed in

Add a device to the list [all of the trusted devices that you're currently signed in to with your Apple ID]

To add a device to the list, you need to sign in with your Apple ID. After you've signed in on a device with your Apple ID, that device will appear in the list. Here's where you need to sign in:

  • For iOS or iPadOS, sign in to iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, iTunes and App Stores or Game Centre on the device. You can also see your paired Apple Watch.
  • For macOS or Windows 10 and later, sign in to iCloud on the device.
  • For Apple TV HD and later, sign in to the iTunes and App Stores on the device.
  • For Apple TV (3rd generation) and earlier, sign in to the iTunes Store on the device.

To unlock your account

If your Apple ID has been locked or disabled has instructions on how to unlock your account.

If your account has been disabled for security reasons

If you see one of the following messages, your Apple ID locked automatically to protect your security and you can't sign in to any Apple services:

  • “This Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons”
  • "You can't sign in because your account has been disabled due to security reasons"
  • "This Apple ID has been locked due to security reasons"

You need to reset your password to regain access. Find out how to reset your password

If your account has been disabled in the App Store and iTunes Store

If you see a message that states your account has been disabled in the App Store and iTunes Store, contact Apple Support for help.

If you can unlock your account, if you can get a code and sign in, you need to change/add the number on your Apple ID. Look in the Security section when signed in online. You may have to add the new number before you can remove the old number. After the change, allow up to 24 hours for the change to sync. Before trying to make the change, sign out of Messages/FaceTime on all devices/computers.
