Messenges on my iMac constantly shows a 3 person icon at the top of the column of messages. How do I turn this ridiculously annoying feature off? Thanks for any help.

You are messaging to a Group chat. A group chat is when multiple people iMessage together. You cannot get rid of the Group Chat icon, but you can remove people from a group chat to remove their icon, but they won't be able to chat anymore. This is how it is.
Neither solution works. Thanks, though. The chat is old, and yet the icon persists at the top of my messages. I will call Apple, but I grow weary of hours long phone calls with tech, as they try to fix various issues such as this. This happened once before, and I figured out how to end it. Just can't remember what I did.
You pinned that group chat so that it appears at the top. Control click on it and unpin it (I think). I’m not at a Mac to check how to do that at the moment
Click the name you what to remove and think a Sub Menu appears and Remove

On iMac, Messenges, three person icon constantly heads the Messenge column.
