Why did AirTag stop updating location?

My AirTag fell off my key chain without me noticing. I didn’t realize until I had already driven away.

It must have fallen off near a beach area.

I put it in lost mode but it would update and showed it was in the same location for over 24 hours.

I checked a day later and it’s in another town 30 miles away from the original location. It updated twice at that location and now it shows the last tracking was 5 days ago. Location never updated again.

Why is this? Should I keep in lost mood or just remove it?

Thanks for the reply. There was no choice of an AirTag section post again that’s why I posted In the Home pod section I wasn’t sure where else to post it because none of the choices available fit. Thanks again

not sure why you write this in their homepod forum

but the airtag do not have gps and it's only means of communication is bluetooth, if it's not within your bluetooth range (50 meters give take) then it can't communicate to you, to get around this it can piggybag other ios devices within range to provide the location if the device it's piggybagging to you, if the other person have disabled bluetooth it can't, if the other person disabled location services it can't
