Hello vigliani,
If you can't update your iMac, let's start by ensuring you have a reliable network connection.
Even if you're not installing macOS from the internet, the installer needs the internet to get firmware and other information specific to your Mac. Make sure that your Mac has a working and stable internet connection.
Also, work through the remaining suggestions in this support article: If an error occurred while updating or installing macOS
Cheers.
vigliani,
Have you tried temporarily signing out of the App Store, and signing back in to test? If the issue continues, and to clarify, were you booted to safe mode when testing getting the update using the link shared by Soosie_J215? We understand the option is "stuck" attempting to select "Get". However, testing in safe mode is a critical step.
If you had tested safe mode and the issue continues, follow the remaining steps in the article provided by Sparks0829.
i.e. repair your disk and test installing in macOS Recovery. If needed again, the article is here: If an error occurred while updating or installing macOS
Be sure you have a backup of your information beforehand. Back up your Mac
"Install after repairing your disk
Install after using Disk Utility to repair your startup disk.
Install from macOS Recovery
Install while your Mac is started up from macOS Recovery. This gives you the latest version of the macOS currently or most recently installed. To start up from macOS Recovery, follow the appropriate steps:
Apple silicon
Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window. Click the gear icon labeled Options, then click Continue.
Intel processor
Turn on your Mac and immediately press and hold Command (⌘)-R until you see an Apple logo or other image.
If you're asked to select a user you know the password for, select the user, click Next, then enter their administrator password. When you see the utilities window in macOS Recovery, select Reinstall macOS, then click Continue and follow the onscreen instructions. Learn more about using macOS Recovery to reinstall."
Best.
Also, you can attempt to download and install from Safe Mode. Boot into Safe Mode, then:
If you still cannot find and install Monterey please let us know.
Thanks to all, I tried again in safe mode using the link and it worked!
Thanks for the update, vigliani. When you try to download it from the App Store, what specifically happens? Do you see an error as well?
See if this direct link works:
Best regards.
The point is that the system is STUCK trying to find Monterey from "software update". Internet is perfect. Also unable to download from the Mac App Store.
The link gets me to a screen the says GET Monterey, but no response clicking on GET. Just hangs trying to find the update.
BTW, also tried and failed in Safe mode..
