Find owner of airtag

Hi

I found an AirTag at the beach. I didn’t know what it was at the time so I brought it home.

I looked up what it was and found that you can

Identify found item in Find My.

Unfortunately I receive the message

Could Not Find Items

An unknown error occurred. Please try again in a few minutes. If the problem persists contact the manufacturer.

My phone is asking to connect to the AirTag to register it so I know it still has battery life but I cannot find out who it belongs to or if they have left a message in lost mode so I can return it to them

Thank you, my phone has continued with the message

“Could not find items”

when using the

“Identify Found Item”

function even though it kept trying to connect to the AirTag.

I took the AirTag out with me driving around today hoping I would get the AirTag detected notification but unfortunately it didn’t come up.

I was hoping to be able to return it to its owner but looking unlikely now.

Thanks for your help
