macbook update won't accept password

Hi, my MacBook air M1 has been asking me to update to Monterey 12.4 for a while now. But whenever I click "Restart Now" it asks for my password and then shakes when I enter it. I can still use the password to unlock the MacBook normally, so everything else is fine, I just can't update it. Is it asking for a different password than the one I use to unlock the machine?
