My Son got his new phone today and we’re trying to set it up but he doesn’t know his Apple ID or password how do we get into the phone

Tell him to check his web browser autofill entries, the Keychain, and other records, or use Apple's iForgot service, or contact their Account Security team, or if he's the unit's original owner and has encountered the activation lock, click here and submit an unlock request.

iCloud Account:

Does he use an iCloud Account of his own? If so, and it is the same account that he wants assigned to his account, then have him use the log in credentials he uses to go in to iTunes --that would be his credentials.
