Traveling to france from US. Can I simply use an adapter to charge my iPhone and iPad or do I need a converter as well?

All you need is a plug adapter. All Apple (and all other quality product manufacturers) provide “universal” power adapters that will work on any AC outlet, anywhere in the world.

You only need a plug adaptor in France or anywhere else the voltage is within the 100-240 range.
