I need to import an iPhoto library not connected to my iCloud account. When I import the photos I will not have enough space to store all the photos on my internal ssd. How can i keep all my photos as previews (small size) without loosing my full size photos?
Regrettably, no. But, it should not tale hours to load your photos library (although it may take slightly longer than opening on your Mac itself) -- Move your Photos library to save space on your Mac - Apple Support
Are you using a correctly formatted drive? If you have your library backed up you may want to try repairing the photo library (How to use the Photos Repair Library on your Mac - Apple Support). I'm not sure that will help, but it may.
You'll need to get an external drive and move the album there.
I have done that but whenever I connect the external drive and launch the library, it takes hours to load. The library is 700 GB. I was hoping there is a way to load small jpeg previews in my photos library and use the external drive to keep the full size files. Is that possible?
